It's in its original format, the sound quality is perfect, there is no added sound effects, and it's complete with every single track and jingle - all 141 of them, including the music to cutscenes that are not available elsewhere due to the gameplay having sound effects normally. So, as an example, I now have the soundtrack to Link Between Worlds. And the guys at hcs64 have updated vgmstream to support it. Now - the newest development is that Wii U and 3DS games can now be decrypted. I've got flawless soundtracks to Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Skyward Sword, Smash Bros Brawl, Xenoblade and many others which I would not have been able to get hold of in such quality anywhere else. There you go - you can now play all the audio as it was supposed to be heard. Got any Wii or Gamecube ISO's lying around for use with Dolphin? Open it up in the browser and extract the music folder (usually easy to find). After installing (very simple), it just works. Vgmstream is a plugin for Foobar2000 and Winamp that plays all of these formats. This has now moved onto handhelds such as the 3DS. Whilst some games (like Twilight Princess) continued to use MIDI, the vast majority eventually started using streaming formats (such as Metroid Prime). Benefits being the small file sizes and the fact that the files are ripped straight from the original games meaning the quality is as good as its gonna get.įrom the Dreamcast onwards, many games started using streaming audio (not redbook audio) in compressed formats.
